Ravi Srinivasan

The entire REEL CANADA team is devastated to learn of the sudden passing of our friend and colleague Ravi Srinivasan.

From the time Ravi started working with us over a decade ago, we knew he was a force to be reckoned with. Ravi was sharp, funny, insightful, and passionate about his love of film and sharing it with the world. His smile lit up the room and his laugh was infectious. He was warm, welcoming, and absolutely the best person to be seated next to at a party.

We were so incredibly proud of his accomplishments over the years, as he founded the Southwestern International Film Festival and became a programmer for Hot Docs and TIFF, where he recently took on the role of Senior Manager, Festival Programming.

Throughout that time, Ravi remained involved with REEL CANADA, taking on a leading role as senior programmer for National Canadian Film Day. It’s no exaggeration to say that he shaped what CanFilmDay has become with his creative ideas and love for the films and filmmakers that this country has produced.

To say that we can’t imagine doing it all without him is an understatement. Ravi’s generosity of spirit was at the heart of every project he took on, and we are so grateful to have been able to have him in our lives for the past 12 years. We profoundly regret that we will not see all of the great things that we are certain he would have accomplished in the years to come.

All of us at REEL CANADA will miss him more than words can express. Our hearts go out to his partner, his brother and family, and the countless people who loved him and counted him as a friend.
