Members of the Sound department are responsible for recording all the sound on set (dialogue, music, atmospheric sounds on location, and more), and operating all the microphones on set. This includes putting microphones on actors or in other places throughout the location, holding the boom mic and ensuring it’s out of shot, and so on. They are also in charge of logging all audio takes, to make it easier for sound editors to do their work in post-production.
